Electives
Mandarin
國語課
Mandarin courses will be conducted at the elementary level. Students will progress naturally through the different stages: comprehension, early production, and speech emergence. In addition, cultural awareness of the Mandarin-speaking world will be also introduced to provide students an immersive experience. We will be using the AUSD Mandarin 1/2 curriculum (Hanyu for Beginning Students) (Chinese Made Easy) as a skeleton for subsequent lessons. The goal for the course is to develop basic communication skills for students, strengthening all three core areas of speaking, writing, and listening.
國語課課程將集中於小學階段。學生將通過不同的階段慢慢地進步：理解力、早期生產(Early Production)和言語出現(Speech Emergence)。此外，課程還會介紹中華文化及其歷史，為學生提供全面的學習體驗。我們將使用 AUSD 國語1/2 課程的教材（Hanyu for Beginning Students）（Chinese Made Easy）作為課程的框架。這課程的目標是培養學生的基本溝通技巧，加強口語、寫作和聽力這三個核心領域。
Test Preparation/Computer Science (CS)
The test preparation/computer science (CS) course will be separated into its own individual session, and students will rotate schedules between the two respective sessions.
The test preparation portion of the course will prepare students exposing them to various standardized testing environments and methods through the presentation of different testing procedures and policies. Throughout the course, students will apply what they have learned by showcasing their performance in mock tests created based on the test preparation and CS materials they have encountered.
The CS portion of the course will be conducted at an introductory level with curriculum (Visualizing Technology Introductory, 7th Edition) from the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) systems. Students will approach various computer concepts, digital and computer literacy, while getting familiarized with various publishing softwares including Microsoft Office and Google G-Suite. Toward the end of the course, students will learn web design skills and create their own website using both traditional coding software and website creation sites.
Arts & Crafts Activity
The arts and crafts class will be an engaging and creative space for the students. Activities range from more conventional art projects such as painting and drawing to creating shrinky dink (customized keychains). Each arts and crafts section was designed with careful consideration, ensuring that students not only have fun but are also able to hone their artistic skills.
Dance Fitness
Our dance fitness programs will be an exciting way to introduce our students to the world of movement, rhythm, and physical fitness. This program often incorporates basic gymnastic elements to add an extra layer of fun and challenge. By combining dance routines with elements like jumps, turns, and simple acrobatic movements, students can develop their coordination, strength, and flexibility while enjoying an energetic and engaging workout. This integration of basic gymnastics into dance fitness not only helps students improve their physical abilities but also promotes body awareness, confidence, and teamwork. With age-appropriate modifications and proper supervision, dance fitness with the inclusion of basic gymnastics can provide a well-rounded and dynamic fitness experience for elementary school students.
